Apple has updated its iTunes music jukebox and device-management software to a version 8.1 this week. Apple has added comprehensivesupport for the latest line ofiPod shuffles released by the company earlier this week. The company has also added a variety of other features to the application, most notably the addition of Genius Sidebar support for movies and television shows. It was in September 2008 that Apple first introduced Genius in the iTunes. By this feature, users could create playlists and search for new music based on what they were already listening to. Now Apple has integrated this functionality and made it available for movies and TV shows as well. The Genius Sidebar will search relevant and related videos in a manner that is very similar to the way it finds relevant music for you. When you tap or click on a movie, the iTunes will suggest new content that you might like from the iTunes Store.

Apple had also introduced, in April 2004, a feature titled Party Shuffle. In iTunes 8.1, this Party Shuffle feature has been renamed as iTunes DJ. This feature has been around for quite some time in the iTunes application. But Apple has integrated a few new features in this segment and has designed them specifically for iPod touch and iPhone users. The new iTunes DJ feature now lets iPhone and iPod touch users to vote on upcoming tracks. If you have an iPhone with Apple’s Remote application installed on it, with iTunes DJ, you can request songs that you want to be played. You can also vote to control when those songs are played. The DJ feature is equipped with its own preferences. This means that you can transmit welcome messages to other users and control if the voting is turned off or on. You can also put a password in iTunes DJ’s feature and make it mandatory for other users to type in that password in order to access the iTunes DJ’s feature.

You as a parent can now restrict access to the iTunes Store but allow access to iTunes U at the same time. Apple has released that this update features a variety of other improvements to iTunes that contribute toward its accessibility. You can now work with large libraries, browse better the iTunes Store, prepare to sync with iPod or iPhone, optimize photos for syncing etc.
